We compete in 3 specific rulesets for fighting disciplines. These can roughly be categorised into some old terminology WUKO (now the WKF) Traditional Karate and WAKO (kickboxing)

WAKO falls into 3 general rulesets (points, continuous, kicklight).

Please do not confuse the rulesets with the governing bodies.

A very rough outline of the notable differences below;

Kickboxing

Point Fighting / Points

Points sparring, a point is scored when the fighter lands a punch of kick on the opponents legal areas. There is no generalised technical requirement on the quality of the landing strike.

LightCon (Light Contact / Light Continuous)

Punches and kicks flow throughout the bout. There is no stop-start scoring. At the end of the bout, the judges decide who they feel the winner was. This should be based on strikes landed, and skill of movement, offence, defence, etc. Generally controlled hooks and uppercuts are allowed, strikes to the back and to the back of the head are not allowed.

Karate

Kumite

Kumite, is a points-based sparring system, whereby fighters are awarded points for correctly executed legal techniques. Techniques must have sufficient power to have been effective, and with sufficient control to have not caused damage to the opponent. Scoring to the back is allowed/encouraged.
